Mr. Shilhanek’s sixth grade LA/SS students continued to read and discuss Kindred, a novel in which a woman travels back in time and experiences the antebellum South of 1815. Students are eagerly reading and discussing this novel that addresses attitudes toward and the treatment of slaves prior to the Civil War. It also helps that there are elements of science fiction, which creates wonderful discussions about time travel, the effects of time travel, and how actions during time travel can affect the future.
